Broker Ed Van Horn was born in Michigan and raised on a dairy farm along with his 4 brothers and 1 sister. After graduating from High School, Ed attended Spring Arbor College, now an University affiliated with the Free Methodist Church denomination.
Upon graduation from Spring Arbor, Ed was selected to join the Michigan State Police. After a short time with that organization, in 1974, Ed entered the United States Army. While with the Army, Ed was commission as a Warrant Officer, with the Criminal Investigation Division. While stationed at Fort Belvoir, VA, due to a large number of reported rapes on the installation, Ed requested and was granted permission to develop and present Rape Prevention courses for female soldiers stationed on the installations. In developing the courses, coordination was made with various medical and mental health organizations. Also, during the time Ed was stationed at Fort Belvoir, he enrolled in and completed a course of study leading to being awarded a Master of Arts degree in Human Resources Management from Pepperdine University.
After resigning his commission and departing the US. Army Ed held various mid-level management positions with a major defense contractor. In these various positions Ed was responsible for conducting training classes and other educational related seminars.
In 1990, Ed successfully earned his Ohio Real Estate sales associate license. In 2000, Ed successfully completed the requirements and was issued an Ohio Real Estate Broker’s license, which he still maintains. Between 1999 and 2004 Ed taught real estate courses at two Ohio colleges.
In preparation to moving to Florida, in 2002, Ed passed the Florida Real Estate Broker’s exam. In 2004, Ed became certified as a Florida Real Estate instructor. In 2009, Ed became affiliated with Daniel J. Taddeo Real Estate School as a Real Estate instructor. In 2016, upon the death of Mr. Taddeo, Ed applied for and was granted permission to be the Permit Holder for Daniel J. Taddeo Real Estate School. Due to legal requirements it was necessary to change the name of the school.
Ed has extensive experience in the practical application of Real Estate. He is an active real estate broker in the Real Estate Owned (REO) and foreclosure business. As a result of this active participation Ed can present practical applications to real estate principles and practices to his students.
In addition to being active in real estate, Ed has a strong belief that individuals have both a professional duty and a social responsibility to serve their communities and their profession. As a result of this belief, Ed has served on the Boards of Director for Habitat for Humanity and the West Central Association of REALTORS®; in various leadership positions with the Boy Scouts of America, and as past President of the West Central Association of REALTORS®; District Vice President of the Ohio Association of REATORS®; and Chairman of the Multiple Listing Committee and as a member of the Grievance Committee. Ed is a former member of the REALTOR® Professional Standards Committee, holds an Amateur Radio License, and is a volunteer for both the Guardian Ad LItem organization and Save the Chimp sanctuary.
Ed’s hobbies are reading, traveling and playing tennis.
